3 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 04/16/2023

Ki started experiencing some vibration while in the stopped position while in either reverse or drive. I had a few components replaced (throttle body, spark plugs, ignition coils, and vacuum pump. None of these helped alleviate the symptoms. I also had the transmission flushed. Additional symptoms ensued including, but not limited to, the car failing to accelerate, beginning to lose power while driving, etc. I had a mechanic come to access the vehicle and the valvoline general mgr come and confirm the mechanic's findings. The transmission ultimately failed on me while I was driving. The car has been incapacitated for almost 3 weeks to date while I researched the best route for repair. I did contact the Ford consumer line about the csp 20n07. They told me they could not help me even though my symptoms were exactly as described within the verbiage.

Then at 101k miles the engine started vibrating when in gear and idling. Motor mounts were replaced, but the problem persisted. Eventually got the entire transmission replaced.

10 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 11/21/2022

On 11/21/22, my car ‘lost’ it’s transmission at 72,704 miles. This is when a wrench light came on the dashboard, and the car went into limp mode-putting myself and my 2 children at risk while driving. I was luckily able to pull off the road. When I restarted the car, the light went off and allowed me to slowly drive back to my house. We had it towed to a Ford dealership for further investigation. Prior to this incident, the car had been having intermittent issues with shifting gears on hills, and an occasionally clunking noise that paired with it. We had taken it to the dealership and asked them to investigate. They told us there were no issues, that the transmission was fine, which meant no codes. We had just had some powertrain issues resolved, due to other lights associated with the terrain management system. The issues continued, intermittently, but we were unable to get into another appointment prior to its failure. Once in, we were informed that it was ‘rare’ and that while they hadn’t fully investigated the issue the prior time-there had been no computer codes to indicate this would happen. So, now we have no car and an $8200 bill to fix it, as quoted by our Ford dealership.

Water pump: coolant leak, overheated engine.

13 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 10/17/2022

No warning lights, took vehicle in for clicking noise - diagnosed ball joint repair. Also Ford dealers tells me my water pump is leaking and repair will cost over $3,500. I have read that this is a common problem and I would like to report it.

14 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 06/10/2022

The contact owns a 2017 Ford Explorer. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the vehicle would not properly accelerate while depressing the accelerator pedal. Additionally, the vehicle would not properly shift gears while attempting to accelerate. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the transmission was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The local dealer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 60,000.

15 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 05/02/2022

Both turbos failed and so did the water pump. Less than 90,000 miles. When the turbos failed, there was smoke from the tailpipes. Then there was noise under the hood. When the water pump failed, there was water leaking under the vehicle. Yes, the problem was diagnosed and fixed by the Ford dealership. One of the turbos was fixed last year. The water pump was fixed in December. The other turbo is waiting to be fixed because Ford changed the part due to manufacturing issues and we are currently going on 3 months without a vehicle. The turbos or water pump failure would have been a catastrophic engine failure at some point. Apparently this is a known issue with the 3. 5l ecoboost engines, but Ford has not issued a recall. Fortunately I have a blue oval certified warranty on my Explorer, so the repair is covered. There were no lamps or warning lights during the part failures. I did not let the car overheat when the water pump was failing.

16 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2022

I backed into a parking spot, put the car in park and turned the vehicle off. As I was getting ready to get out of the car, it rolled backwards into another car parked to my passenger side rear. My vehicle did not give any warning, no sensor alert, or anything!.

17 Power Train problem

The contact owns a 2017 Ford Explorer. The contact stated that while coming to a stop, the vehicle started to idle very rough. The contact stated that the transmission also shifted hard while driving. The contact related the failure to customer satisfaction program: 20n07 (power train). The vehicle was taken to the dealer but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 96,000.

18 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/22/2021

*vehicle makes popping noise *jerks, loss of power when going down the road, hard to steer, push on gas and will not go. Engine light and wrench come on. Called dealer when first happened was told to turn off back on to reset. Have worked with dealer and manufacture. This is dangerous and I'm terrified to drive the vehicle. This will be at least the fourth time back in the shop for repairs. In addition to several calls.

19 Power Train problem

The vehicle had loose k member bolts, bent struts, loose exhaust system. This was found when we took vehicle in for first oil change.

20 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2021

Explorer truck started leaking coolant from water pump. In parked position a puddle started to form under it.

21 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/27/2021

This issue already has an NHTSA id number 10156860 leaking pdu. The particular failure of this unit leaks oil onto hot exhaust and according to a local service center is a fire risk putting occupants and property in potential harms way. It appears to be a very well documented and common failure and in my opinion should be a recall due to the safety concerns. The cost of repair varies across the country however appears to range between $1800. 00-$4000. 00 mine although failed pre warranty expiration by the time I was able to get it into the dealership I was 3600 miles over my drivetrain warranty. They are potentially offering "some financial assistance" through some Ford loyalty program however I have yet to see what that will look like.

22 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 11/19/2020

My Explorer has 70. 000 miles and the transmission started to make sounds when is in motion like metal to metal and when I acelerate is geting worst and when it shift it jump at 3. 000 rpm I bring the Explorer to the dealer and im waiting for diagnostic.

23 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/20/2020

When backing up and the wheel is turned there's a hesitation then what feels like I hit something. (a clunk w/o the noise ) then when break peddle is pressed the car shimmies bad . I also smell antifreeze coming from the heater vents . Brought it back to dealership for them to fix it since it was just purchased there . . They had it for 5 days . . Nothing got fixed. They turned front rotors and topped off fluids. I do believe that I have a bad rear tow bearing or a u-joint. Breaks not sure but the car is worse than before. Still smell antifreeze and there's a dark film on the windshield which indicates a bad heater core. I've brought this to the attention of the dealership bit they won't return my calls or emails or texts. I believe I was sold a lemon. There's an oxidation on the engine and a black stain on bottom of engine. Also the exhaust manifolds have been replaced. This is a 2017 and shouldn't have this many issues .

24 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/10/2020

Two Ford dealerships have attempted to repair transmission issue which was first reported last October 2019 with only 11,000 miles. Since then, 6 repairs have been made by Ford in an attempt to fix ongoing transmission issue but have been unsuccessful. Vehicle will not accelerate at high rates of speed. Ford has been made aware of multiple unsafe events caused by this issue where vehicle would not accelerate on highway with three small children riding in car as passengers. Ford refuses to replace or refund for unsafe, defective vehicle despite customer's complaints and requests.

25 Power Train problem

26 Power Train problem

27 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2020

Our 2017 Ford Explorer has been having this issue for about 6 months where every time it reaches a speed of 30 mph you feel the gear kicking in hard. The vehicle jerks after it sounds like it struggles to get into that next gear. As time passes it is more noticeable and stronger it does not matter the speed or road.

28 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/31/2020

2017 Ford Explorer. Car dying out on acceleration from a stop. A scary thing happened on rt #619 today in hartville. That is, the car died out halfway out onto the roadway, it pauses for some seconds where the accelerator does nothing. Then it picks up by itself. The throttle does nothing. None of these actions are desirable. These behaviors put us in great danger. So let's see, this happened twice in the morning I brought it to the dealership (Monday 01-06-2020). And, it happened once the 2nd day back to me on Friday 01-31-2019. But it did not happen for you in the 4 weeks you had it to test. Amazing isn't it? well, I think I'm going to go along with the many other people online that report the identical problem that I experience. In my car, it's been a problem since new. I do believe Ford is well aware of this problem. I also believe they're not going to do anything to correct it until they're made to. When I asked the service manager, he said to "Ford told us not to do anything unless you can verify it. " so, you just don't verify it. In "Ford think" this must mean the problem doesn't exist. This puts me in mind of some years back when cars were taking off by themselves. Pinning, injuring, and even killing some owners. It's odd, but it was the same thing back then. It's the drivers, they're doing something wrong. It's not our cars, and that's exactly what I'm being told now. It's my driving habits. The same habits that don't effect my other 5 cars. I did not believe it then, nor do I believe it now. Ford seems to have an odd mindset. To find something, you have to be looking for it. And, I also reported to you that the sync system was going crazy, making adjustments that weren't needed or called for. It has to be continually readjusted. Did it not do that either? it did it for me the minute I started it up. Thank you, mg.

29 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/04/2020

At 60,492 exactly 492 miles after the powertrain warranty expired a wrench on the dash came on and upon further research it was a transmission fault, no power loss noted or change in performance. Key cycle cleared fault, after a little more operating time it would happen again. We took the car to gosch Ford of escondido where it was purchased to have the transmission serviced and diagnose the fault. We payed for an filter and oil service for the car and at that time was informed that the transmission did not require any maintenance services until 150,000 miles and that the fault that suddenly presented itself was a torque converter fault & to change out the whole transmission at a cost of 6,000 dollars to us. We reached out to Ford headquarters to plead with them since it prematurely failed before even the first service and we were told too bad so sad for you. Being our only means of transportation my wife had to drive it a bit more to and from work at just prior to our job layoff due to the covid emergency we could not afford 6k in repairs costs and we to this day are curious since many thousands of people have had the same problem across our nation. The same problems are occurring as when your department recalled the Ford edge and fusion models. We have power going through the transmission just fine and without any dash warnings whatsoever it will kick itself out of gear then slam indiscriminately back into gear causing a sever health and safety matter during operation. We plead with you to please hear our call and the ones of many many thousands on the Ford forums that are experinecing the same. Also according to the dealership all recalls have been performed on this vehicle yet the NHTSA site shows nothing has been performed. Thank you very much.

30 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 11/18/2019

Vehicle started jerking, so took it to Ford after scheduling an appointment and still couldn't get it seen. Clerk said it needed to stay overnight but will not give me a loaner so let me leave with the same conditions. The vehicle stopped moving forward or in reverse as I entered a parking garage, so towed it back to dealership to only find out that the transmission is blown and will cost $7k to repair. The vehicle is a 2017 with 75,000 miles, bought new and with no issues until now. Clerk stated it is outside power-train warranty of 5 years 60,000 miles. However this is a known issue with Ford as they are going through a lawsuit now due to their transmissions but will not fix the issue.

34 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/03/2019

Takata recall after purchasing 2017 Explorer noticed severe headaches, digestion problems, drowsiness, difficulty focusing due to carbon monoxide entering the cabin. Took it to the dealer for a recall but doesn't seem like that they solved the issue. Also noticed a rumbling sound underneath the vehicle when turning left under acceleration, feeling like a transmission problem. Would never expect something like this to occur on a $47k car with only 30k miles.

35 Power Train problem
